Happy Birthday to Me Giveaway!

Today was my birthday and I'm celebrating with a giveaway! Also, I'm excited because it's the first giveaway for my Etsy Shop, Wild Thyme Threads! If you are a fabric fanatic, as I am, or know someone who would love receiving this as a gift, please enter!!

Last month I bought two Moda Charm Packs and wanted to share one. I'm offering Moda's Salt Air by Cosmo Cricket! It's 42 - 5" fabric squares of goodness! Salt Air is a vintage beach line filled with warm summer colors of sea foam, coral, deep blue, and sunshine. These 5" squares of sea-inspired patterns of ocean coral bloom, sea garden, tiny bubbles, waves, fish tales, and deck chairs are perfect to include in your travel zipper pouch, mug mats, table toppers, sundress, and beach bag projects.

But that's not all...! While cleaning out my sewing supplies, I found I had two Quick & Easy Block Tool reference books for cutting quilt blocks. I'm not sure how I ended up with two, but I have included one of these handy reference tools also.

I'll keep entry rules simple..

Intial Entry - Leave a comment here or on my Wild Thymes Thread Facebook Page letting me know you would like to enter the drawing. Please leave a way to contact you, you can email me here if you don't want this info public. {*Entries outside the U.S. are welcome, I am happy to pay International shipping, however, if there are duties or cutoms due on receipt of the package, it is the responsiblity of the recipient to handle. The package will be small and should be no more than a pound.}

For an additional entry...

Zakka Style

A few weeks ago I was at my local quilt shop, looking for no particular fabric, just browsing all the pretty fabric I want to get my hands on! I love looking at the array of colors, clever designs, and textures, and running my fingers along the bolts, touching the fabric, being careful not to dirty them. { I'm one of those people that have to touch stuff.. got me in trouble as a kid. } As I'm wandering the shop I'm running through my head the project ideas for the fabrics I see. Sometimes I find a fabric I love that I just "gotta have." I've realized there are some fabrics I find that I can't wait to use in a project, and there is that special piece of fabric I just don't have the heart to cut. I'm a bit selfish, I suppose, and want to keep it just for me to enjoy.

While cruising the shop, I came to their book section and found the sweetest book, with the cutest projects. The book is called Zakka Style, compiled by Rashida Coleman-Hale, released 2011. It is part of the Design Collective series. In the modern sewing world I've heard the Japanese term "zakka." I've learned it to mean "many things." According to the book, it's about the little things that improve your home or appearance. Rashida explains "...a style that embodies a kind of simple charm and uniqueness ~ something handmade that is useful yet pleasing." Her book is a compilation of her favorite zakka artists who have each contributed a zakka project. The intro to each project has a thumbnail picture of the designer, along with a bio and their website/blog link.

These little projects are perfect for the whimsical Japanese-import fabrics you see for sale on Etsy. However, I did notice most of the projects feature linen, which is hard to find in quilt shops. I've seen some solid linen offered for sale on Etsy, but a few other alternatives offered are a linen/cotton blend or a lightweight canvas.

If you are interested in learning about another design style, I recommend taking a peek through Zakka Style. I find the designers' projects inspiring and unique. I'm excited to use some of the Japanese-import fabrics that I've previously purchased. However, I'll need to find me a bit of the linen on Etsy before I get started. I think the toughest part of it all is deciding which of these 24 delightful projects to try first!

Happy Zakka Sewing!
